In this Adobe Photoshop Tutorial we will learn how to create a scanner like effect on a text banner. Start a new document of any size you want. I am making a banner of 728x90 with White Background.

After that, type the text you want to appear in BLACK letters.

Control-Click layer to select the text and create a new layer Layer-New-Layer.

GO to Edit-Stroke and when the pop up appears enter the data from the picture.

Now you have the outline of the text and this is the layer we will use for our animation.

Create a new layer Layer-New-Layer and fill it black and change the layer mode to Multiply.

Create a new layer Layer-New-Layer and then fill it black. Click D to reset colors and grab the Gradient Tool and draw a horizontal line starting from left to right.

Click on Image-Adjustment-Invert and then on Layer-Create Clipping Mask. In the inset picture you can see how many layers and what order they should have.

We now go to Image Ready. Use the Move Tool to bring the top layer all the way to the left and we take the first frame after we make sure that your windows look like the ones in the picture.

Now we move the top layer all the way to the right just like you see in the picture. Click the Tween Tool and when you do, a new window will pop up.

Now, click on the Tween Tool and when the pop up window appears, copy the information you see in the next picture. Click OK when done.

You now have your animation ready, Save your file as Save Optimized as.

You can create a little variation by changing the background in the file from white to black. Here you can see it has a different look.
