Get closer
Step-1:

Do not stand too far from your subject. One of the most common mistakes a photographer makes is that he or she stands too far from the subject. If you position yourself too far, the camera gets "Confused" and cannot distinguish what is the background and what is the subject.

Step-2:

When you stand too far the subject and the background become one and that will not make for a good picture. If you do not have a zoom in your camera just get a little closer so that you get the details of your subject.

Step-3:

You will not have a problem if your equipment posses a good zoom in which case you can just zoom in and get a closer look.
