drawing realistic wood
Step-1:

Open a new document in Photoshop. Set the dimensions to 400 x 400 and create a new layer you can call Wood. Fill the layer with the following color: 947250.

Step-2:

It is time to go to Filter-Render-Fiber. Set Variance to 42 and set Strength to 51.

Step-3:

Next, go to Filter-Liquefy and select this settings.

Step-4:

With the use of a big sized brush and clicking on the icon you see in this picture, push the wood texture out in order to make knots and to give the wood some imperfections. Do as many as you need so that your texture looks realistic.

Step-5:

After I did the knots, I brushed the texture from the top down in some areas to give more randomness to the wood am to make it more uneven.

Step-6:

I did this with a very big brush.

Step-7:

The last step is to go to Image-Adjustments-Brightness/Contrast and play with the sliders until you get the wood color you are looking for.

Step-8:

And here is your wood texture.
