how to create realistic neon font
Step-1:

The document is 600 x 200 fill it with black background and type the text you want to see in white font.

Step-2:

Duplicate that layer four times. Just Right-click on the Text Layer and choose Duplicate Layer. Name them Layer 1 thru Layer 4.

Step-3:

Right click each one of the text layers and Razterize them one by one. Select Layer # 1 and click on Filter-Blur-Blur More.

Step-4:

GO to text layer two and click on Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur and we are going to start with 6. Go to the next text layer and this time enter 7 and 8 on the last one.

Step-5:

Once you are all done, merge all your text layers by turning them on and clicking Layers-Merge Visible. The black background should not be part of the merging process.

Step-6:

Right-click on the layers you just merged and select Blending Options. Copy the data from the following screen.

Step-7:

And you get a true Neon Effect in your text.
